The Birth of

Yön grew from a what was to be a simple, screw-around fantasy genre short story I started writing for the hell of it.  It sort of grew from there into a novella, and now it’s about seventeen chapters and about 200 paperback novel pages and still growing.

About the same time I was goofing around with the story, I was wrapping up a Star Wars D20 role-playing game that I’d been running as a change of pace for the last few years.  I wasn't sure what I’d be running in its place, so I decided to set up a Dungeons and Dragons game based on the story I’d been writing.  I started with a dozen or so pages of campaign background for the players and it’s up to three times that and growing.

Why “Yön”?

It’s short.  It’s easy to remember.  It’s a play on the phrase, “hither and yon”, although there is no plan to add a world named Hither.  The umlaut above the “o” is just a pretension.

Where do I learn more?

Campaign documents and other useful forms can be found in the Downloads section.  Our group’s artist will no doubt be making her work available for viewing in the Photos section, and the players are encouraged to post in the Forums.  Players also should frequently check the Blogs (web logs for you Internet neophytes) as I post news of rules updates and campaign session notes there, and perhaps rules discussions on more complex game concepts.

Check the right-hand sidebar to see if you have the recent version of the Yön Worldbook, to see the Yön Quick News, the activity on the forums (forum discussions that you have posted to, active forum discussions, and forum discussions with no replies), and recent additions to the art gallery.

Note to Non-Player Visitors

If you’ve noticed that you don’t have access to certain areas, that’s because they are limited to players in the campaign.  The Yön Worldbook is not intended, at this time, for public consumption, if for no other reason than so much remains unfinished, even to the point of some paragraphs ending unfinished.  I have a nasty tendency to write until I run out of ideas, and sometimes that leaves big gaps in the narrative, such as complete pantheons of gods left undone.  My players are used to this sort of thing, but some writing quirks should not be inflicted on the general public.
