    Feat clarification?

Breath energy: pg.13 Yon book 7/18

The Entry is a little unclear.  It is written that the feat changes your breath weapon type.  It then states that if you choose cold you must take the flaw no breath.  Doesn't this have that effect anyway?  If you take the feat you are no longer breathing fire, you are breathing the new type, or did you mean that you add this energy type, so you may choose which energy at the time of effect? (run on sentance, I know  Stick out tongue)

    Re: Feat clarification?

So that people know what we're talking about, I quote the text of that feat from page 13 of the Yön Worldbook:

    Breath Energy [Dragon]

Your can change your breath weapon to another type of energy.

    Prerequisites:  Dragon, breath weapon.

Benefit:  You can change your breath weapon to a different energy type:  either acid, cold, electricity or sonic.  If you take the cold energy type, you must also take the No Flame flaw (see page 14) and your subtype changes from "fire" to "cold".

Special:  You may take this feat up to four times.  Each time you take it, you select a different energy type.

First, the benefit section say that you can change your breath weapon, not that you lose the previous energy type.  That's why the second sentence says that if you take the cold energy type, you have to take the No Flame flaw.  (There is no flaw called No Breath.)  That's because you can't breathe cold and fire both, but you can have any other combination.  You choose which energy to breath at the time you use the breath weapon.

I will amend the text to make this clearer for the next update.  Thank you for bringing it to my attention.  How about this for a description?

    Breath Energy [Dragon]

Your can change your breath weapon to another type of energy.

    Prerequisites:  Dragon, breath weapon.

Benefit:  You can select another energy type you may use as a breath weapon:  either acid, cold, electricity or sonic.  You choose which single energy type you emit each time you use your breath weapon.  If you take the cold energy type, you must also take the No Flame flaw (see page 14) and your subtype changes from "fire" to "cold".

Special:  You may take this feat up to four times.  Each time you take it, you select a different energy type.

    Let me know.

    Re: Feat clarification?

    Crap.  Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap, crap.

OK, rewrite it again, since Sinjiin still thinks it is ambiguous:

    Breath Energy [Dragon]

You can use an additional energy type for your breath weapon.

    Prerequisites:  Dragon, breath weapon.

Benefit:  Select an additional energy type you may use as a breath weapon:  either acid, cold, electricity or sonic.  Each time you use your breath weapon, select which type of energy you breathe.  If you take the cold energy type, you must also take the No Flame flaw (see page 14) and your subtype changes from "fire" to "cold".

For example, if you start with a fire breath and take Breath Energy (acid), you may choose to breath fire or acid each time you use your breath weapon.  If you later take Breath Energy (cold), you must also take the No Flame flaw and change your subtype from "fire" to "cold".  After that, you may breathe cold or acid energy each time you use your breath weapon.

Special:  You may take this feat up to four times.  Each time you take it, you select an additional different energy type.

    How's that?

    Re: Feat clarification?

Ok, that sounds good, however; I have another question.  Prerequsites: Dragon.  Does this mean characters who take the dragon breath feat or whatever they call it in Complete Arcane are not allowed to take this?   Some of the Yonian Dragon feats do not have this prerequisite, they just have the prerequisite of breath weapon. (I know I'm annoying.)Devil

    Re: Feat clarification?

That is a good question and the prerequisites are deliberately put that way.  That’s because some breath feats should be able to apply to any breath weapon; others I decided to limit to dragons (or dragons and classes that emulate them).  Also, in the newest version, I blended the Yönian dragon feats into the regular feat list specifically because I felt some of them were applicable to other creatures or even character classes.  I don't deny the possibility that I might have botched a few feat prerequisites, I'll give the list another look.
